  Local Travel Tips
Located an hours boat ride from the mainland of Semporna, just a few minutes boat ride from Sipadan Island you will find Mabul Island.

Mabul is recognised as one of the world's best "muck-diving" sites, one of the richest single destinations for exotic small marine life in the world. Flamboyant cuttlefish, blue-ringed octopus, mimic octopus, gobies and frogfishes are everywhere, as are moray, snake eels and practically the whole scorpionfish family.

This makes Mabul is a fantastic macro site. The beauty of Mabul and nearby Kapalai will also appeal greatly to non-divers as well. There are two resorts on Mabul Island, with the third resort an off-shore refurbished oil-rig.

Though physically close to Sipadan Island, the diving at Mabul is completely different. Mabul is a wonderland of strange exotic marine creatures. You can see dozens of species of Nudibranchs, Shrimps, Crabs, Eels and Fishes and a lot of other tiny rare creatures that can be found in the sand, rubble and fringing coral reef near the island. This is sometimes called "Muck Diving".

Don't expect to see all the "Big Stuff" that can be found at Sipadan, but if fantastic colourful creatures and Macro Photography are your style, you'll love Mabul. In addition to the dive sites surrounding Mabul, you also have access to the prolific macro dive sites at Kapalai.
