PNG Travel Tips

Walindi, located on the north coast of New Britain is a world-renowned scuba diving hotspot, and it has previously been voted as "The Best Diving Resort Anywhere in the World" by reader surveys. Fern-draped bungalows nestle amongst the rainforest along the beachfront, creating a relaxing, breezy tropical atmosphere.

Underwater, Kimbe Bay supports an incredibly diverse marine habitat. World famous dives sites like Ema, South Bay, Inglis Shoal, North Ema, Christine's, Susan's, and Restorff Island are only a few of the more than 200 reefs and dive sites sprinkled throughout Kimbe Bay. All are pristine and protected by a rigid policy of "Look but don't touch."

Scuba Diving in Kimbe Bay

Walindi has some of the world’s most spectacular pinnacle diving.
The region boasts over 190 offshore reefs, with 70% of all coral species indigenous to the Indo-Pacific present. The diversity of the marine habitat is amazing with over 900 fish species identified. Killer whales, dolphins and dugongs, down to the rarest nudibranch and tiny decorator crab, as well as most critters in between, are found in these waters. Walindi Diving has 3 dive boats each catering for 6-8 divers. Walindi management policy is committed to supporting this unique ecology both below and above the water. To this end, the resort is supporting the establishment by the European Union of a Nature and Marine Research Centre within the resort grounds, which will continue to monitor and research all aspects of Kimbe Bay and West New Britain ecosystems.

Some of the more popular dive sites:
Rainbow Ridge.
Huge barrel sponges that loom out from the reef attract a host
of multi-coloured feather stars.
Vanessa's Reef.
Giant sea fans dominate the sea-scape.This natural wonder is known as “Amphitheatre”.
Barrel sponges and white trailing seawhips are also
abundant.
The Cathedral.
The outside is draped in staghorn and gorgonian coral. Huge spiral whips extend out 10m from the reef face. This site is great for a night dive.
Bradford Shoals.
A volcanic pinnacle rising up from over 650m. Schools of big eyed jacks, barracuda, sea perch and surgeon fish dominate this dive.
